Chicago this weekend

I'm going to be visiting Chicago this weekend (June 16 thru 19). Any recommended shows or clubs to check out?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

it depends on the music u want 2 hear.
i think the biggest scene in chgo is metal, esp. in the burbs.
tom's band kick the cat plays at martyrs on lincoln ave just south of damen, they are definately worth checking out.
andie's in the loop is more traditional jazz, kind of an after work crowd but a cool place.
the jazz fest in grant park is also coming up but i think its after your stay.
try a chgo neighborhood search, some of the "hip" spots are: lincoln park, lakeview (where the cubs play), gold coast aka downtown aka the loop, bucktown, and wicker park.

Thanks Shock! Is there a weekly entertainment rag that I should pick up for listings? It doesn't look like Kick The Cat is at Martyrs this weekend, but I would like to find out where they're playing.

unfortunatly kick the cat generally plays only once a month. and it is always (usually) on tuesday nights at martyr's. there is probably no chance of seeing them this weekend. they are all full time players that play their 'money' gigs on weekends and then just get 'their rocks off' with the fusion band once a month during the week. a good 'rag' to pick up when you get here is the 'chicago reader'. that will have the best club 'gig' listings. if you want you could come see my rockin blues band at 'hooters' in schaumburg, IL which is about a 1/2 hour drive from the city. we are playing outside from around noon to 5pm. we do rockin, swing, shuffle, cajun, funk, southern blues. all high energy stuff. this particular gig is a motorcycle show featuring beautiful babes and custom bikes! should be hoppin'. let me know if you might make it, maybe i can help you to get there. by the way, schaumburg is large city, not some ho'dunk small town.

How come I never get any of those Hooters gigs? I'm going to be staying near Wheaton ... is that anywhere close to Schamuberg? Are you playing on Sat or Sun? I'm going to be tied up with family stuff during the day on Saturday, but Sunday might be a possibililty.

Thanks for all the info! Any other shows you might recommend over the weekend?

schaumburg and wheaton are about the same distance apart as schaumburg and chicago....1/2 hour drive. we are playing on sunday (noon to 5pm). will you have access to a car? if you friend has internet, just 'map quest' it.

as far as giving you ideas as to who to see.....when exactly are you coming in...when are you leaving, and what types of music do you most like to see? there's lots of stuff going on at 'navy pier' on the lakefront....i don't know....there's tons of stuff. i suggest you try the links i sent you.
